**Gopal Yonjan** (1943–1997) was a musical powerhouse and one of the true architects of Nepal’s Golden Era of music. Born in Darjeeling, he started out simply playing the flute as a kid before evolving into a master composer, lyricist, and singer. What made his songwriting so legendary was his incredible versatility—he could effortlessly pen beautiful romantic ballads, deeply moving spiritual songs, and some of the most iconic patriotic anthems in Nepali history, like *"Baneko Chha Paharale"*. Beyond his own massive catalog of music, he was a dedicated mentor who helped shape the careers of other legends, including his famous collaborator Narayan Gopal. For anyone passionate about the craft of Nepali songwriting and composition, Yonjan’s legacy as a creator who seamlessly blended folk, classical, and modern melodies remains an absolute masterclass.
