Madan Krishna Shrestha (born 1950) is one of Nepal's most beloved and respected actors, comedians, and singers. He is best known as one half of the legendary comedy duo "Maha Jodi", alongside his long-time creative partner Hari Bansha Acharya. For decades, Shrestha and Acharya dominated Nepali television and theater. What made their comedy so deeply impactful was that it wasn't just for laughs—they masterfully used sharp humor and satire to expose political corruption, social inequalities, and the everyday struggles of ordinary Nepalis. Classic tele-serials like 15 Gate and Lal Aawaz became cultural touchstones that entire families would gather around the television to watch. Beyond his incredible talent on stage and screen, Shrestha is admired for his profound personal resilience and gentle spirit. Despite publicly battling Parkinson's disease for years and facing the tragic loss of his wife, Yashodha, he has remained an inspiring, gracious figure in the public eye. He beautifully documented his life's highest highs and lowest lows in his bestselling autobiography, Maha ko Ma. Today, he is considered a living national treasure—remembered not just for making generations of Nepalis laugh, but for making them think.
